“He loves horses”: 76-year-old Gerald Bennett was named Tampa’s best coach of the month

Gerald Bennett skipped photos of the winner after the second game in Tampa Bay Downs on Wednesday. It’s not that winning games have become cliche. When his 4-year-old mare, the androgynous Princess Livia, was acclaimed, Bennett took part in another contestant, 5-year-old mare Rattlesnakerose, who scored six points.
”((Jockey) Danny (Centnor) said that the ground fell off her tail-maybe trying to get out so quickly,” Bennett said, putting the Rattlesnake down, and assured himself of his own The experience will not be worse.
At the same time, Princess Livia was also taken away. He was taken away from the game by owner coach Victor Carrasco, Jr, who demanded $10,000. The price of US$10,000 is the lowest price ever for Princess Livia. Both players are co-owned by Rattlesnakerose, Bennett’s Winning Stables company.
Bennett said: “Many car owners (through the claim box) are afraid of losing their horses, but the name of the game is to win the race.” Bennett won today’s first race with another two-year-old Winning Stables horse. Foreman of the race Florida breeding.
Bennett knows the name of the game. In the 15 victories in this conference, he sits at the top of the coaching list and is the recipient of the first 2020-2021 Salt Rock Tavern Coaching Award this month.
The rapport between Bennett and the horse is rarely achieved by a coach. In the pre-dawn time, as he walked through the barn in the hills of Tampa Bay, some small candies were recognized, while others were close enough for a nudge, hoping they would be rewarded with mints. Everyone is alert, trained and eager to follow the man’s teaching.
”He loves horses. He loves this business.” said his wife, trainer Mary Bennett. “He got into the trailer (on a recent rest day) and took the horses to Ocala for laying. While he was there, he would watch the horse training to see if he could get another good horse. He likes everything about it. Racing is his adrenaline surge,” she said.
Many of his followers are often scrambling at the betting window. Turning the battered horse back is Bennett’s trademark. People who weren’t aware of it when they were arrested often kick themselves into the parking lot – as of November 28, a couple who had been trained by Bennett at that time had a long shot and earned $2 a day. The double return is $181.40.
Bennett is a 76-year-old player from Springhill, Nova Scotia. He usually has a strong start to his sixth consecutive Oldsmar training title and seventh championship title. Only Jamie Ness has won more championships (nine consecutive years from 2006-2007 to 2014-2015). Bennett scored 15 victories and won the inaugural Salt Rock Tavern coach of the 2020-2021 Conference Monthly Award.
”We made a plan for this meeting throughout the year to keep our horses fresh and hope everything goes well,” said Bennett, who has 45 runners here. “When you make horses happy, they will run for you. Happy horses love to race.”
There will be setbacks-the horse is ill, injured or accidentally compensated by another trainer. Photo processing losses and disqualifications will decrease, but Bennett will always bounce back even harder.
”When other things happen, you have to keep working hard, keep working hard,” Bennett said. “You are trying to keep things smooth and do the job in the right way.”
Bennett ran many horses as the owner under his Winning Stables, Inc. banner. Last season, he won his first Tampa Bay Downs owner title with 24 victories.
Bennett may call Tampa home, but he has spent many important days and has excellent horse racing elsewhere. His top horse races include the 1st class champion and millionaire Beau Genius, Secret Romeo, Banker’s Jet, Fast Flying Rumor and R Angel Katelyn.
Bennett has 3,935 professional champions, ranking 14th in North American history. Among Canadian-born trainers, he is only behind the late Frank H. Merrill (Jr.) (3,974 victories). Then, hope to win the milestone of 4,000 victories, and once again remind people that Bennett’s private youth fountain is located somewhere behind the Downs Mountains in Tampa Bay.
